The gifted and talented children have been identified and provision is made both within the class situation and with enrichment activities. Links with Chatham House Grammar School have provided specialist support sessions in numeracy for two pupils of the school, one of whom is currently in Year 2.
Birchington has a number of talented pupils in sport who have benefited from a Multi-skills Academy Day by invitation.
The school holds a variety of activity weeks from year to year and the themes which have been covered include Maths week, Writers week and Art week. Visitors are invited in on a regular basis and include theatre groups, musicians, poetry readers, and authors etc to expand the pupils' experiences.
Birchington has a wide range of clubs for all children covering various sports, art, drama, music and creative activities. The art club is specifically for Gifted and Talented Artists as identified and a display area in the hall celebrates their work. Birchington also recognises that many children may be involved in activities outside school for which they have a particular talent and children are invited and encouraged to share their successes with school by way of the Talent Board.
Developments for the new academic year include specific termly sessions for Gifted and Talented pupils in a number of areas, including production of a school newspaper. It is also planned to develop further links with secondary schools in the Cluster to provide enriched activities eg. possible use by a group of G&T musicians of the recording studio at the Marlowe Academy.
