(Amber Goldney, King Ethelbert School)
"I thought our day at the winter Gardens was fun. My favourite part was watching the plays and having discussions. The discussions were quite fun as I rarely do stuff like that."
(James Maxted, King Ethelbert School)
Just a few of the comments from pupils at King Ethelbert School following Respect! - the first pupil EQ conference held at the Winter Gardens in Margate on 24 June 2008. Download further quotes from King Ethelbert pupils
The conference involved just over 100 pupils from both primary and secondary TEC schools and approximately 30 staff, with the aims for the day being:
• to celebrate achievement and progress in EQ
• to enhance EQ skills and understanding
• to develop a charter of ‘values’ which pupils could take back to their school and hopefully share e.g. in assembly or through the school council
Pupils were selected on the basis of their achievement or progress in EQ, for example:
• Achievement in SEAL or similar activities
• Progess in self-awareness or managing emotions e.g. anger management, motivation, confidence
• Successful participation in activities to support others e.g. peer mentoring, buddying, anti-bullying, groupwork
• Leadership e.g. school council, team leadership
