Drapers Mills Primary School serves the area around the Millmead Estate in Margate and its rambling site reflects its history with buildings dating from 1850 to 2006, the most recent being a new Foundation Block and Nursery. Many of our pupils live in challenging circumstances and this can create barriers to their learning. The additionality brought by the Thanet Excellence Cluster has helped us to begin to break down those barriers and the funding provided by the Behaviour Improvement Programme is helping us to bring about effective developments that are improving the climate for learning and so helping us to raise standards.

As an Excellence Cluster / BIP member we have been able to put systems in place that are becoming embedded in the life and work of the school, improving the life-chances of our pupils. We have received national coverage for our work in improving behaviour, we now have a pastoral support department working with children and their families and our emotionally intelligent approach is transforming the school. There will come a time when the funding stops but we very much hope that these systems will continue.
