Ellington School for Girls moved to its new site in Newlands Lane in May 2007 having been on the Ellington Place site since 1914.
Ellington prides itself on being an increasingly emotionally literate school that enables all girls to feel happy, safe and confident so that they can learn effectively and reach their potential.
Ellington School is a proactive and supportive member of the Thanet Excellence Cluster and the additional funds provided by the cluster has allowed it to expand its provision and development of Emotional Intelligence, provide training for learning mentors, and develop the Learning Support Centre together with the Gifted and Talented provision. Equally important to Ellington, is the network provided by the Cluster enabling it to share best practices and staff training. In this way a true partnership has been established within the community for the development of the four strands. The positive support provided by the Thanet Excellence Cluster has allowed Ellington to fully encompassing Every Child Matters, which was confirmed in our last Ofsted Inspection.
‘Factors which contribute to the school's success include small class sizes, and a special curriculum for pupils who have very low standards or learning difficulties, regular monitoring of pupil's work so that underachievement is spotted early and tackled fast, very high quality care for pupils with many staff supporting their academic and emotional needs, an ethos of achievement which, whilst nurturing the whole pupil, makes it clear to pupils that they come to school to learn and are expected to aim high.' Ofsted November 2005.
Ellington School for Girls is entering a new and exciting phase as we move forwards toward a possible merger with the Hereson School for Boys and all the possible outcomes from the consultation and competition procedurres that this process involves.
