Hereson School moved to its current site in Ramsgate Road, Broadstairs in 2000. However, the school has served the people of Ramsgate and Thanet for one hundred years. It is an all-boys 11-16 school and has strong collaborative links with its feeder schools and the other secondary schools. The school works closely with Thanet College and the Thanet Skills Studio as part of its vocational programme for Key Stage 4 pupils.
Our heritage means that members of the local community hold fond memories from the past. Although we have endeavoured to maintain the traditions and values so crucial in the development of young students, we are a very different establishment today. Situated in Broadstairs and overlooking the seas, our buildings and site provide us with wonderful, almost inspirational opportunities for pupils of all abilities.
The mission of Hereson School, working with parents and the community, is to promote the overall growth and development of each pupil so that he will become a productive, healthy, well-adjusted and well-behaved member of society. Our goal is to create life-long learners who not only possess skills and knowledge, but also retain the unique qualities, which make this family school so caring. We endeavour to create a learning environment where “Every Child Matters”. Hereson School aims to provide a happy and caring environment where children are central to our thoughts and each individual is valued for their efforts and achievements, a school where every child really does matter.
The school was part of the Kent/Somerset Virtual Education Action Zone, which evolved into the Thanet Excellence Cluster. The involvement in this local network of schools is important to the development of our school. Membership of TEC has enabled the training and provision in Emotional Intelligence; the training and work of our Learning Mentors; the important role of our Learning Support Unit and the development of provision for Gifted and Talented pupils.
