Northdown Primary School is a 1.5 entry school situated in Tenterden Way in Margate.   It was built in 1969 and was the first school in Thanet with Nursery provision.   The school has 340 pupils on roll and caters for pupils from 3 - 11 years.   The school serves the area around the Millmead housing estate in Margate and the percentage of pupils with special educational needs is higher than the national average.

The school has greatly benefited from being a member of the Thanet Excellence Cluster.   The impact of Headteachers working closely together to make strategic decisions for the benefit of the cluster has impacted directly on Northdown's development.   The school employs three Learning Mentors to support pupils who have emotional and behavioural difficulties - one has been funded and all three have been trained through the Excellence Cluster.    The school is also a member of the Behaviour Improvement Programme (Phase 4) and has been provided with the funding and flexibility to integrate both strategies for the benefits of the pupils.
